WebXtenderWebXtender is a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) based application that allows you to view ApplicationXtender documents over a corporate intranet or the Internet. With WebXtender, you can search for and display documents in any ApplicationXtender application. WebXtender's thin-client architecture allows you easy access to ApplicationXtender documents through the familiar interface of a Web browser. By using commercially available browsers such as Microsoft's Internet ExplorerTM or Netscape's NavigatorTM, WebXtender clients can navigate web pages to display documents. WX offers document display functionality similar to ApplicationXtender without the overhead and cost of client software distribution and configuration, thereby lowering the total cost of ownership associated with a document management system. WebXtender provides clients with a full range of ApplicationXtender document display functionality through Web browsers. WebXtender incorporates ApplicationXtender's extensive security model, so that all clients must first supply a valid ApplicationXtender user name and password for authentication. WebXtender clients are granted all application and document level privileges associated with the supplied user name. Wildcard and range searches can be used to find documents, and document thumbnails are available for display with your result set. Document management options include viewing of annotations, page rotation, and scaling. The pages presented to WebXtender clients are implemented using Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP), allowing scripting code to be mixed in with HTML content. Scripting languages such as VBScriptTM and JavaScriptTM can be used to manipulate and generate new HTML pages. Using these scripting languages, WebXtender pages can be customized to meet your organization's requirements. |
