ReportXtender

ReportXtender from OTG Software manages the process of storing computer reports and image data onto easily accessible CD-ROM and CD-Rewritable media. Large computer output reports and image files that are ordinarily printed to paper or kept on microfiche can now be published to CD-ROM and stored off-line. ReportXtender stores report and image data to a database application for distribution and viewing. ReportXtender consists of three basic processes: defining the application, populating the application, and preparing the application for migration to CD-ROM. ReportXtendder uses Application Generator (AppGen) to create new applications for storing the report and/or image data. Building new applications consists of defining an index template to store and then retrieve the information from the CD-ROM media. Using AppGen's many features, you have the flexibility to create custom applications that fit your requirements.

Information is added to ReportXtendder applications by either processing computer output reports or by adding other documents (i.e. scanning). ReportXtendder uses an extract/import module to set up and process report data. Extraction definitions are created for each report type, which defines rules to precisely locate the position of each index field. As these extraction rules are defined, an extract preview mode is available to test report definitions. When you process reports, index fields are extracted and written to an index file, while the report itself is compressed and stored separately for future retrieval. ReportXtendder utilizes a modified LZW compression routine to minimize storage requirements for the reports. You can configure compression ratios to provide maximum compression or maximum extraction speed.

Paper documents can be added to ReportXtendder by using the native scanner support or by using any other third-party production scanning or conversion system. New documents are easily created by scanning and indexing existing paper documents. ReportXtendder offers support for scan-and-index online (one document at a time) and batch scan (multiple documents scanned at once and indexed later).

ReportXtendder's Migrator moves the application data to a preparation area for mastering a CD-ROM. ReportXtendder allows you to define a target location for all information. Everything in the application is transferred, including the index database, all document pages, and viewer software. The finished CD-ROM contains everything necessary to retrieve, display, print, fax, export, and e-mail the data through a standard Windows®-based viewer.

ReportXtendder Database Reintegration is an add-on module available for those who want to integrate database information from several ReportXtendder CD-ROMs into a centralized database. An integrated database provides access to information stored on multiple pieces of CD-ROM media from any Windows workstation on a network.
